There are rumours that Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan had secretly married his longtime love interest Isha Sharvani.

Now, Isha, who is one of the best classical dancers in Bollywood, says “I am not living in with Zaheer Khan, nor do I have any plans of getting married in the near future. I don’t know where these rumours come from! I have stopped reacting to them. My family gets very stressed out when they read this rubbish and that makes me angry sometimes. Everytime my grandmother reads the newspapers, she asks me questions. I have told her to stop believing whatever is published, unless I tell her so myself. I think these are the hazards of being a celebrity and one has to pay the price of being one.”

And for her plans to act in films, the ‘Kisna’ actress Isha added, “I might do Hindi films in the future, but I have nothing in hand right now. I am working hard to refine myself as an dancer. I love films. Ideally I would love to pursue both, dance and acting at the same time but I know that isn`t possible. I won`t be able to do justice to both. I can specialise only in one thing at a time. It is difficult for me to films right now.”

Zaheer’s parents want their son to settle down soon but Zaheer and Isha has decided to wait for the nuptial as Isha is a struggling star and want to build up her career in Bollywood and dance.

Isha Sharvani Biography

Isha has been at the forefront of contemporary Indian dance for over a decade and is considered to be the leading aerial dancer in India today. She has trained for over 15 years in Kathak, Chau, Kalaripayattu, Yoga, Rope and Pole Mallakhamb. She is the lead dancer in the Daksha Sheth Dance Company.

Isha is also an actress, her latest film, Luck by Chance, was directed by Zoya Akhtar and released in February 2009. Recently, has begun experimenting on her own style of dance and is working towards her first self-choreographed show.

Within hours of inviting scathing criticism from various quarters for his “uninformed”, “childish”, “irresponsible” and “arrogant” statement that the 26/11 attacks were hyped because “elite people” were targeted, Bollywood actor Salman Khan on Sunday evening apologised for “hurting” the sentiments of people.

As his just-released film Dabangg opened to brisk business at the weekend box office, Salman found himself in an unseemly controversy after Indian news channel Aak Tak broadcast the actor’s interview, aired earlier by Pakistan’s leading television channel Express 24×7, in which he had made controversial remarks about the 26/11 attacks.

Attributing the “hype” surrounding the 26/11 attacks to the fact that “elite people” were targeted by Pakistani terrorists, Salman had said in the interview: “Everybody knew that the (Pakistani) Government was not behind it and it was a terrorist attack. More than anything, our security failed. We have had lot of attacks earlier, and all of them were not from Pakistan. They were from within. This time because Taj and Oberoi were under attack, everybody just stood up.

“In the past, we have had bomb blasts in trains and small towns. At that time, no one stood up. This time just because the elite were targeted, five star hotel and stuff, they panicked. For the first time, they got up and spoke about it. Why suddenly now? This has been happening for the longest time. People suddenly woke up because they were scared for their own lives and (those of) their loved ones,” the Bollywood actor said.

Having come under attack from many political leaders and prominent citizens through Sunday afternoon, the actor went into damage-control mode by the evening by tendering apology for the “hurt” caused.

Claiming that his interview had been “twisted” to make him sound “insensitive”, Salman told a news channel later in the day: “My interview has been twisted. I saw it myself; the way it is coming across on TV, it is sounding insensitive. I was just saying life is equal for both rich and the poor; some attacks get more media coverage and some don’t. Why is that? Every human life is important,” he said.

The actor added: “Any terror attack, and in any part of the world, is unpardonable. A terrorist has no nationality, no religion and no guts. I have complete faith in our intelligence agencies. I’ve always had faith in our police and armed forces… I did not want to hurt anybody’s sentiments and if I have hurt anybody’s sentiments, then I am really, really sorry.”

Earlier in the afternoon, condemning Salman for his objectionable remarks, Shiv Sena’s spokesperson Sanjay Raut said: “The 26/11 attacks were a war against the nation. Salman should apologise for his remarks. Salman should have realised that Ambani was not at the CST, nor were Tata and Birla in Cama Lane at that time.” The two places Raut was referring to — Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) and Cama Lane — were among the sites targeted by Pakistani terrorists on the night of November 26, 2008, in which 166 persons were killed.

Dubbing Salman’s remarks “childish”, Special Prosecutor in the 26/11 trial Ujwal Nikam said: “It appears that without knowing the details, the actor made such statements… I shall say these are childish remarks. They (terrorists) don’t make any distinction between the rich and the poor. It is judicially established that the outcome was a deep-rooted criminal conspiracy hatched in Pakistan and the targets were deliberately selected to wage war against India.”

Reacting to Salman’s remarks, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said: “It doesn’t matter whether a big or small person has died. It’s very serious matter for the country when somebody loses his life in a terror attack. We need to work together to root out terrorism.”

Describing the actor’s statement as “uninformed”, Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said: “He is an actor. He does not have the information to make a comment on whether the Pakistani Government was involved or not. People travelling in taxis, constables, waiters, hotel workers; they all lost their lives in the attacks.”

Demanding stringent action against Salman for his objectionable remarks, BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said: “Had POTA been in existence today, Salman would have been behind bars… He should to keep his ‘dabangg-giri’ confined to films. He should apologise to the nation.”

Noted columnist Shobhaa De called for the boycott of Salman’s latest film. “Salman K’s shocking statement abt 26\11 smacks of arrogance, ignorance and plain stupidity. A lame apology won’t do, Sallubhai. Boycott Dabangg!,” she tweeted.

Apart from apologising over television, Salman also sought to clarify on his Twitter page: “Every human life has equal value and any act of terror, anywhere in the world, is unpardonable. Be it 9/11 or 26/11.” He added, “Next time mein apne sub interview sub khud bhi record karoonga, kya bolte ho? Takeh yeh sub controversies nahi ho (I will record all my interviews next time onwards so that I can avoid these controversies),” he added.

Fearless enough to crow and clap, fearless enough to whistle and whoop. Fearless enough to beat the box-office record for the biggest opening for a Bollywood film. Ever.

Dabangg, staring Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha, has opened in 1,584 screens in India and in terms of numbers, the film is expected to have a bigger Friday than Raajneeti (the biggest opener of 2010, which collected Rs. 10.5 cr. nett on Friday) and should be at par (or bigger) than 3 Idiots, which is the biggest opener ever (collected Rs. 13 cr. nett on Friday). Eid will be celebrated on Saturday, so once can imagine the (grand) business on not just Saturday and Sunday, but also Monday. As per initial trends, Dabangg will be competing with just one film – 3 Idiots.

Top 5 opening Fridays:

3 Idiots Rs. 13 cr.
Raajneeti Rs. 10.5 cr.
Kites Rs. 10.5 cr.
Housefull Rs. 10 cr.
Ghajini Rs. 9 cr.

Salman’s Chulbul Pandey — a comic and corrupt cop with a cause — has ended the Bolly drought at the box office starring the likes of Kites and Raavan. “Dabangg is bigger than anything that has hit Bollywood in a long time…. If Wanted (Salman’s 2009 superhit) worked more with the single-screen audience, Dabangg has managed to break the plex barrier,” says trade analyst Komal Nahta.

Salman’s comic-action avatar, with punches, punchlines and pelvic thrusts, has something for everyone. No wonder Ballygunge businessman Ankit Agarwal watched Dabangg on Friday afternoon, then Saturday night and won’t mind another dekko. “Salman makes every trip worth it.” No wonder Urmila Sen, 16, must catch Dabangg a second time. “Chulbul Pandey is mind-blowing. Salman is Bollywood’s rockstar,” she gushes.

The Dabangg fever is raging in town, with screens registering one houseful show after another. At a cinema in Dum Dum on Sunday evening, Salman fans denied tickets went on a mini rampage.

According to Taran Adarsh, Dabangg collected Rs 75 lakh in Bengal on Friday, Rs 3 lakh more than 3 Idiots on opening day. “We opened across a record 156 screens and every show since Friday has been packed. Dabangg has opened better than 3 Idiots and Ghajini. Tickets have been sold in advance for next week,” says Mahendra Soni of Shree Venkatesh Films, the film’s regional distributors.

“The occupancy figures have been in the range of 90- 98 per cent and we expect it to rise further in the coming week,” adds Virendra Marya, the regional director of INOX.

What explains the Sehwag-like start for Dabangg? The fun promos of Salman caught the eye. The music caught the ear. The debut by Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter Sonakshi caught the fancy. But above all else, Salman Khan as Chulbul Pandey has caught the imagination of so many.

“Nobody can match him in star power,” Bolly buff Sumit Rajora wrote on Facebook.

The box office agrees.

She was 37.

The 37-year-old, hailing from Palakkad, was admitted to a private hospital in the city on Sunday morning after she had difficulty in breathing. According to her family members, the singer had been undergoing treatment for lung infection for over a year and did not record for films during the period. As the news of her death came up the South Indian Film Industry went into shock. The state of mourning could be seen in the music world with the sad demise of Swarnalatha.

The national-award-winning singer, who has sung nearly 6,000 songs in seven Indian languages, made her debut in ‘Neethikku Thandanai’ with the song ‘Chinnachiru Kiliye Kannamma,’ set to music by composer M.S.Viswanathan.

Trained in Carnatic music since the age of three, Swarnalatha has several chartbusters to her credit. Early in her career, songs such as ‘Malaiyil Yaro Manathodu Pesa’ in the film ‘Shatriyan’ earned her a place among the top singers in the industry. She won a national award for ‘Poraale Ponnuthaayi’ from ‘Karuthamma’ (1995) and a State award for ‘Povoma Oorkolam’ from ‘Chinna Thambi.’

Swarnalatha got her first break of her career in 1987 when she met M S Viswanathan. He introduced her with K J Yesudas in a duet “Chinnanchirukiliye Kannamma” in the film “Neethikku Dhandanai”. She has given her best songs with music composers like M M Sreelekha, M M Keeravani and KOTI of which Ilaiyaraja is prominent. Her talent was nurtured and promoted by music maestro A R Rahman. She has given more than 100 songs with these two noted music directors. She has also sung for Hindi movie “Rangeela” that goes like “Hai Rama Yeh Kya Hua”. Her voice was best suited to Urmila’s sensuous gesticulation in the visuals of song. She has also earned National Award for playback singer in 1995 for the song “Porale Ponnuthayi” from Karuthamma.

She had sung songs in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Bengali and Badaga for leading composers, including Illayaraja and A.R.Rahman.

CAT 2010 Eligibility

The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree would be calculated based on the practice followed by the university/institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result with 100.

Ronit has lend his voice to the title track of this movie, starring Deepika Padukone and Neil Nitin Mukesh.
Buzz up!Ronit is none other than the son of the director of this movie Pradeep Sarkar himself. The lad’s father said that he was totally unaware of his son’s talent. To his absolute amazement, he noticed this great talent for the first time at a music concert. Pradeep had no idea that a singing talent was growing right under his nose. He had quite often seen him play musical instruments like the guitar and humming some tunes, however, he discovered the singer in him only when he heard him sing at a concert. To his surprise, the audience was also swaying their heads in tune with the song and applauding to express their pleasure .
Feeling proud of his son, the director mentioned that Ronit has a small band. He added that music director Anandh was in search of a budding singer with fresh voice, who could sing in high octane. He chose Ronit for the title track of this Yash Raj movie. Besides this movie, Ronit has lent his voice in a couple of ads as well.
